Kitakyushu, Feb. 26 (Jiji Press)–Nippon Steel Corp.’s Yawata Works said Tuesday that hot-rolled steel production has been suspended since Friday night due to mechanical trouble.

The mill, located in northeastern Fukuoka Prefecture, western Japan, cannot resume production until March at the earliest, Yawata Works officials said.

The halt in production, caused by the breakdown of a rolling machine motor, is expected to result in a production cutback of more than 100,000 tons, they said.

Yawata Works makes some 4 million tons of steel products each year.END
