Oil Soars As AA Asks for Duty-Rise Delay
March 3, 2008
OIL prices hit new record highs tonight as motorists urged the Chancellor to put off the proposed 2p-a-litre rise in fuel duty. Oil hit $103.51 a barrel in New York while in London Brent crude was up $1.53 to $101.63. It came as the AA met Alistair Darling to ask him to defer the levy due to come in on 1 April and push the price of petrol even further above Pounds 1 a litre.
