With Global Muscle and Total Traceability, Blue Horizon Organic Flaunts Delicious, Worry-Free Foods at Natural Products Expo West

Posted on: Thursday, 6 March 2008, 09:00 CST

How many brands do you know of that can tell you exactly what village provided the ginger in your Thai Vegetable Spring Rolls? How many natural food brands lining today's grocery aisles can claim that its founders were hawking natural foods in the 1960s -- and pioneering brands such as Eden Foods and Santa Cruz Organics long before it became au courant? With an audience easily in excess of 20,000 attendees -- and elbow-to-elbow with droves of natural food industry exhibitors -- Blue Horizon Organic's clean-farmed shrimp, organic appetizers and entrées will enjoy a leading edge at the Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center, March 14-16, at Booth 2272.

Gone are the Nehru jackets and bell bottoms, but more prevalent than ever are organics. Partners Tim Redmond and John Battendieri have lived through -- and helped define -- natural foods' evolution. Respectively, they've championed such brands as Millina's Finest pastas and sauces, Santa Cruz Organics, VRUIT and Eden Foods. Now, the focus is Blue Horizon Organic, featuring traceable, whole food ingredients with clean-farmed shrimp for tasty entrées and appetizers anyone can prepare in minutes.

In late 2007, Blue Horizon Organic's Jaap Langenberg wrapped up a six-month endeavor putting together an organic farm co-operative in Thailand for the company. The farmers are USDA National Organic Program-certified and the company processes at a centralized, NOP-certified facility. This is in addition to Blue Horizon Organic's already well-established clean-farmed shrimp enterprise in Ecuador, which exceeds the strict organic standards set forth by Naturland (Germany). The result? Delicious, convenient, and highly ingredient-traceable products all made to organic standards.

At Expo West, Blue Horizon Organic will exhibit its popular branded line, found in retailers' freezers. Whole Foods Market nationwide is already briskly selling Blue Horizon's newest line addition, Blue Horizon Organic Spring Rolls, made with organic wrappers, spices, and vegetables, plus two more varieties with chemical-free, farm-raised Naturland shrimp. Varieties include Chinese-style Shrimp, Thai-style Shrimp, and two USDA-certified organic vegetarian options, Indian-style Vegetable and Thai-style Vegetable. Eight spring rolls come in each box, sold at a suggested retail price of $4.99. All are MSG-free.

Blue Horizon Organic brand Shrimp Skillet Meals, which feature Naturland-certified shrimp, are prepared meals for two, stovetop-ready in 10 minutes, come in four convenient varieties: Shrimp and Penne Alfredo, Shrimp and Penne Alla Vodka, Shrimp and Pesto Farfalle and Shrimp and Scampi Rotini. The company's Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers, made with clean-farmed shrimp, organic breading and organic ingredients, make the art of entertaining "naturally" delicious and easy. Choices include Garlic Shrimp, Panko Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp, and Tempura Shrimp.

Blue Horizon Organic works under the premise that every consumer has the right to clean, safe, responsibly sourced seafood. The company only partners with third-party certified farms and wild fisheries which strictly comply with conservation policies. Its model includes using no growth hormones, antibiotics, tripolyphosphates, preservatives or artificial colorings, and it factors in water quality, a low-density population, and organic feed. Blue Horizon was founded in 2005 to help protect the health and supply of aquatic ecosystems. Learn more at www.bluehorizonorganic.com.
