REGINA - Reuben Ross of Regina earned a perfect mark en route to the gold medal on men's three-metre while Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., took the gold on women's 10-metre on Saturday at the Winter Nationals diving competition.

On men's three-metre, Ross received one perfect 10 on his opening dive - a front three and a half - to take the gold with a personal best 1,343.70 points. It was his first individual national title. Eric Sehn of Victoria was second at 1,215.65 and Francois Imbeau-Dulac of Montreal was third at 1,110.95.

''It feels great to win and also to break the 500-point barrier in the final," said Ross, who also won the 10-metre synchro with Riley McCormick of Victoria earlier this week. ''It gives me a lot of confidence that I can do it again. And to get a 10 is something that hasn't happened often in my career. It was special do it here in front of family and friends."

Three-time world champion Alexandre Despatie of Laval, Que., the leader after the preliminaries, withdrew from the final due to back pains. He is scheduled to compete on three-metre synchro with partner Arturo Miranda of Pointe-Claire, Que., on Sunday.

On women's 10-metre tower, Heymans posted a big win with 1,132.45 points for her 26th career national title and second victory this week. Roseline Filion of Laval was second at 976.90 and Marie-Eve Marleau of Laval third at 950.95.

''I'm really satisfied with that performance," said Heymans, the 2003 world champion on tower. ''I was consistent through all three rounds so I'm definitely on the right track. I'm really pleased that I'm posting consistently strong performances. I just need to add more polish to my dives."

On women's three-metre synchro, Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal and Jennifer Abel of Laval won gold with Veronique Lemieux and Sabrina Beaupre of Montreal second and Janie Potvin and Pamela Ware of Montreal third.
