999 Staff in Plane Pull to Raise Cash
REGIONAL emergency crews are pulling together to tug a plane 100 metres at Birmingham Airport in aid of soldiers injured in Iraq.
Staff from West Midlands Ambulance and West Midlands Fire Service will join airport workers to drag the Flybe aircraft across the apron at the airport’s old Elmdon site on Saturday.
They are raising money for a restful garden at Selly Oak Hospital’s military unit, where soldiers who are flown back to Birmingham Airport are taken for treatment.
It would benefit soldiers who need longterm care at the hospital and their families.
After the plane pull volunteers will walk 14 miles through Solihull and Birmingham to the hospital carrying a ‘patient’ on a stretcher.
