The owner of Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Mass., announced the formation of a new renewable energy venture at the ski resort. The new company, EOS Ventures LLC, will use Sustainable Energy Developments Inc. (SED) of Ontario, N.Y. as its general contractor for wind projects.

Tyler Fairbank, former president of Berkshire Economic Development Corporation, a partner in the new firm, will serve as CEO. Co-owners with Tyler Fairbank are Brian H. Fairbank, owner of Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, and Joseph O’Donnell, of Boston, both of whom will serve in a business advisory capacity.

EOS Ventures will focus on providing renewable on-site power generation solutions to large-scale energy users, including businesses, municipalities, schools and farms. The company was spawned from the Zephyr project at the ski resort.

In 2007, Jiminy Peak installed a megawatt class turbine to generate its own power. According to Brian Fairbank, CEO of Jiminy Peak, other companies and organizations have called the resort looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption from the grid.

“Clearly the escalation of energy costs is creating challenges for large scale energy users,” Tyler Fairbank said. “On-site energy generation and renewable technologies offer real solutions.” The new company will initially focus on wind projects, but bio-fuels, bio- mass, and other renewable technologies are part of the larger business design.
