Tajik, Iranian Leaders Back Joint Programme on Economic Cooperation for 2009-15

Dushanbe, 14 March: During a meeting in the Senegalese capital Dakar on 13 March, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and [Iranian President] Mahmud Ahmadinezhad discussed a possibility of the drafting of a Tajik-Iranian programme on economic cooperation for 2009-15.
The Avesta news agency has learnt at the presidential press service that the Iranian president assured Rahmon that the practical implementation of the projects on the construction of Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant, preparation for the construction of Shurob hydroelectric power plant as well as on the construction of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran highway were under his personal control.
Moreover, the Tajik and Iranian presidents spoke in favour of speeding up and completing the construction of the Istiqlol (Anzob) tunnel and of setting up industrial joint ventures.
