Deccan Likely to Be Renamed
March 21, 2008
Vijay Mallya, the chief of Kingfisher Airlines, is planning to rename Deccan to include the words King or Kingfisher in it, reported The Economic Times.
The airline was renamed from Air Deccan to Deccan after its merger with Kingfisher Airlines in 2007.
Citing an unidentified source, the newspaper has reported that the name of the airline will be changed to coincide with the uplift of the brand. Kingfisher plans to upgrade Deccan to bring it on par with Jet Airways’s JetLite.
The newspaper quoted a senior official of the airline as saying: “We plan to position the new brand not as a low-cost carrier but a value-based carrier.”
