France reportedly will send 1,000 more troops to Afghanistan in a show of support of the NATO mission there.
However, it was unclear whether the troops pledged by French President Nicolas Sarkozy would be stationed in the volatile parts of southern Afghanistan where NATO forces regularly do battle with Taliban and other fighters, The Times of London reported Saturday.
France currently has about 1,900 troops in Afghanistan.
Talk of French troop deployments are expected to be discussed at a NATO summit next month in Bucharest, Romania.
