Ohio Governor Expected to Discuss Job-Creation Plan

Mar. 25–MONROE — Gov. Ted Strickland is expected this week in Monroe to unveil a $1.7 billion package to create more than 80,000 jobs in Ohio.

Strickland’s proposal, “Building Ohio Jobs,” is designed to lay the foundation for long-term economic prosperity in the state. It is expected to be outlined during his visit from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, to Monroe’s City Building, 233 S. Main St.

“The roads, bridges, rails, biomedicine, bioproducts and advanced energy investments in this package will create jobs for Ohioans in the near term and position our state as an economic leader in key industries for decades to come,” said Brewster Rhoads, the governor’s regional director of Southwest Ohio.

Strickland’s plan specifically calls for:

–An investment of $400 million in the Clean Ohio Fund.

–An investment of $400 million in the Public Works Commission.

–An investment of $250 million in advanced energy.

—An investment of $200 million in Main Street Renewal.

–An investment of $200 million in the biomedical industry.

–An investment of $150 million in logistics and distribution infrastructure.

–An investment of $100 million in bioproducts.
