Bentek to Advise on Regional Gas Glut at GasMart 2008, Intelligence Press Reports
A glut of natural gas supplies could be bottled up in the Southeast and along the Gulf Coast in the next year as 40 new capital infrastructure projects, including pipelines, storage and liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminals, go into service in the Southeast/Gulf region, according to Bentek Energy’s Porter Bennett who will outline his company’s latest study at GasMart 2008 coming up in downtown Chicago May 20-22.
The successive waves of capacity expansion coming on line between now and mid-2009 is expected to cause significant volatility in regional price differentials. According to Bentek’s analysis, 25 natural gas pipeline projects, 11 natural gas storage projects and four LNG terminals are expected to shift gas flow patterns, disrupt regional pricing relationships and realign the value of transportation capacity across the most complex pipeline grid in North America between early 2008 and midyear 2009.
Bennett will be outlining the latest in a series of Bentek market reports at GasMart 2008. Other industry veterans who will offer their views include ConocoPhillips Vice President William W. Hussey and Kathleen Eisbrenner, Shell Gas and Power International’s Executive Vice President of global LNG. Pipeline experts include Dean Ferguson, Vice President of TransCanada’s U.S. Pipeline Central, and John Eagleton, Vice President Kinder Morgan Energy Partners.
These and other industry speakers will offer their views and then be on tap to answer questions at their companies’ exhibits in the GasMart Market Network Center. A new sponsor at this year’s 22nd annual event is the Process Gas Consumers (PGC). Alex Strawn, Purchasing Group Manager, North American Energy, Procter & Gamble and Chairman of PGC, will make a presentation. There also will be a new edition of the popular “End Users Speak Out” panel.
Sponsors Integrys, Wachovia and EnergyUSA executives will discuss the distribution end of the business, and there will also be presentations from weather and global market experts. Nearly two-thirds of the more than 300 attendees pre-registered for this event are utility, LDC, power-gen, industrial or commercial purchasers of natural gas.
