Vietnam Considers Raising Electricity Prices
Vietnam considers raising electricity prices
HANOI, March 11 (Xinhua) — Vietnam is taking electricity price hike into account, due to rising costs of input materials, local newspaper Vietnam News reported Tuesday.
The Vietnamese government earlier decided to increase electricity price to 890 Vietnamese dong (VND) (5.5 U.S. cents) per kWh from July 1 from the current 860 VND (5 cents).
However, the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the country’s biggest electricity producer and sole distributor proposed a higher price of 917 VND (5.7 cents) per kWh.
Vietnam plans to increase its electricity capacity to 25,000-26, 000 MW in 2010 from 11,400 MW in 2005, meeting demand for its socio- economic development, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.
