Genband's G9 Media Gateway to Be Integrated in Alcatel-Lucent Solution

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 April 2008, 12:00 CDT

Alcatel-Lucent has extended its strategic relationship with Genband, a developer of media gateways and applications solutions, by adding Genband's new G9 converged media gateway to its Mobile Next Generation Network solution.

In Alcatel-Lucent's standards-compliant (3GPP Release 4 and Release 5) Mobile Next Generation Network (NGN) solution, the media gateway provides a migration path from mobile switching centers to centralized mobile call servers with distributed media gateways, and to (Release 5) IP Multimedia Subsystem-compatible networks.

Genband's G9 platform is the latest generation of carrier class media gateways with field-hardened software, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, and many integrated, mobile-specific features like Transcoder Free Operation (TrFO), which improves voice quality and reduces network costs, voice quality enhancement features, and an integrated Signaling gateway.

Dave Geary, president of multicore activities at Alcatel-Lucent, said: "Genband has been a trusted partner, providing the key high-performance gateway component in our Mobile NGN solution for several years. The success of our relationship makes Genband's newest media gateway an ideal addition to our NGN portfolio as we help operators efficiently migrate to next-generation wireless broadband technology."
