Shaw and Westinghouse Enter into Agreement With SCE&G
Shaw Group has announced that the nuclear division of its power group and Westinghouse Electric Company have entered into an agreement with South Carolina Electric & Gas Company, principal subsidiary of Scana, to take the next step towards delivering new nuclear electric power generation.
Under this agreement, Shaw, Westinghouse and South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) will work to finalize terms of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for up to two new Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear units planned for co-location at the existing VC Summer nuclear station in Jenkinsville, South Carolina.
The agreement also authorizes the procurement of long lead-time materials to be undertaken by Westinghouse. Shaw has been engaged in engineering and construction planning for this proposed nuclear generation expansion project at the VC Summer station for the past two years.
JM Bernhard, Jr, chairman, president and CEO of Shaw, said: “With this agreement, we have reached a significant milestone in the process to deliver new nuclear power generation in the US. Now, Shaw will continue to work with SCE&G and Westinghouse to finalize the EPC contract as soon as possible.”
