Fuel Fee Dispute Cause 30 Flights to Delay at Vietnam Airport

Around 5,000 Pacific Airlines passengers were left waiting at the airport in Vietnam, after 30 of the low-cost domestic airline's flights were delayed because a company hired to fuel the airline's planes refused to work, reported the Associated Press.

An official at the airport reportedly said that Vietnam Air Petrol Company, or Vinapco, reportedly refused to continue with its work owing to a dispute over the pumping fees. Pacific Airline had reportedly argued that Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier, should also be paying the additional fee.

According to Vietnamese newspaper, Tien Phong, the airline refused to pay the additional $10 for each ton of fuel pumped. It was only when the Transport Minister Ho Nghia Dung intervened that the situation was brought under control, Luong Nam, the general director of the airline, stated.

Vinapco had proposed an increase in pumping fee, citing rising costs as the reason to do so. Vinapco is a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, and it has a monopoly on supplying fuel to all airlines operating in Vietnam.
