New York Baristas Sue Starbucks Over Tips

Starbucks baristas in New York have filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in Manhattan. According to the baristas, the coffee chain forced them to unjustly share tips with shift supervisors.
The lawsuit claims that Starbucks owes at least $5 million to more than 2,000 workers. This lawsuit is the latest in a series of similar allegations across the US.
In March, a San Diego Superior Court judge ordered Starbucks to pay $106 million to its California baristas. Like the baristas in New York, the ones in California alleged that their tips had been unfairly shared with shift supervisors.
In addition to this, baristas from other areas, including Massachusetts, are also challenging the company's tipping policy.
In relation to the latest lawsuit, Reuters quoted Starbucks as saying: "Unfortunately, copy-cat lawsuits have been filed. We intend to vigorously fight these lawsuits."
