Irish utility Bord Gais Networks has unveiled plans for the construction project to bring natural gas to the Tipperary towns of Cashel and Cahir, in Ireland.
Representatives of Bord Gais Networks met with the South Tipperary County Council to outline the first phase of the E7.2 million construction program, which will see work commence by the end of April 2008 or early May 2008. Bord Gais expects to have first gas in Cashel, by early-2009, and in Cahir, by mid-2009.
Cashel is planned to be served from an existing Bord Gais distribution network in Ballyclerihan. The project includes 14.5km of 250mm diameter feeder main and approximately 8km of distribution mains around the town. Cahir will be served by a new distribution link.
Ken Breen, project construction manager, said: "This is an important project for South Tipperary and the response from local authorities and key businesses has been very positive. We have spent the last few months visiting local businesses and developers to determine the interest in utilizing natural gas. Development of a construction program is dependent on securing key anchor loads within each town."
