Gas Natural Receives LNG Cargo Delivered By Q-Flex Tanker

Spanish utility Gas Natural has taken delivery of the first cargo of liquified natural gas to arrive in Europe onboard a Q-Flex type tanker, the Duhail, at the Enagas regasification plant in Cartagena, Spain.

Gas Natural noted that this newly built liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier is, together with its sister ships, the biggest such carrier in the world, with a capacity of 210,000 cubic meters.

The Spanish gas utility noted that the Qatargas-operated LNG carrier’s route to the Enagas regasification plant has also set a new precedent, by being the first vessel of this type to traverse the Suez Canal.

The LNG cargo carried by this type of tanker can reportedly supply a 1,200MW combined cycle power plant, similar to the power plant operated by Gas Natural in Cartagena, which in turn generates sufficient electricity to supply a city of more than a million inhabitants.

This operation has been possible with the collaboration of Stream, a company set up jointly by Repsol YPF and Gas Natural to operate in the LNG business.
