New training courses being run in Cornwall are offering plumbers and heating engineers the chance to fill the growing skills gap in the burgeoning renewable energy industry. The Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership is forecasting a shortage of skilled specialist engineers. To tackle the issue, Redruth-based renewables specialist Capture Energy is providing free training sessions to give plumbers, heating engineers and other tradespeople a basic grounding in solar power technologies. The next course takes place in Redruth on April 30. To book a free place visit www.capture-energy.co.uk/ trade/ training, or call 01209 716 861.

CUSTOMERS of Plymouth airline Air Southwest travelling to London Gatwick Airport from Newquay and Plymouth with onward UK flights will benefit from a new service that has just been launched. A domestic transfer facility will be available for those passengers carrying hand baggage and booked with British Airways for the next leg of their journey. An agreement is also in place for their return into London Gatwick. It means they won’t need to go through arrivals or re-clear security at London Gatwick for an onwards British Airways domestic flight.

FOLLOWING the success of Crunchy Breakfast debating and networking events, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce has introduced a new teatime event. The first Crunchy Tea will be held next Thursday at the Copthorne Hotel, and will discuss “Do employment rights hinder growth?”. The event will feature speakers Caroline Mitchell and Greg Yates from solicitors Foot Anstey – but their presentation may not be quite what you would expect from a legal team. As well as the serious legal issues they promise sketch shows and role plays as well. The first Crunchy Tea starts at 4.30pm and costs pounds5 for chamber members and pounds15 for non-members.
