Posted on: Tuesday, 15 April 2008, 09:01 CDT

Crude oil prices hit a record $112.82 per barrel Tuesday morning, as the weakened U.S. dollar sent speculators back to commodities.

Crude oil gained $1.06 in electronic trading to $112.82 per barrel, its highest price ever.

Other commodities also surged.

Heating oil gained 0.0365 cents to $3.2394 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices rose 0.0183 cents to $2.8401 per gallon. Natural gas prices rose 0.117 cents to $10.17 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline reached $3.386 per gallon, up from Monday's $3.373 per gallon, AAA said.
