Hitachi Power Systems America Awarded Contract to Supply Boiler Feed Pump Drive Turbines for Sandy Creek Power Partners

Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., today announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply two boiler feed pump drive turbines for the 900MW Sandy Creek Energy Station, a coal-fired electric generating station located near Riesel, Texas. The facility is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2012. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The contract with Sandy Creek Power Partners is the fifth recent order for Hitachi boiler feed pump turbines in the U.S. market. Sandy Creek Power Partners, L.P., is a joint venture composed of Zachry Industrial, Inc., Overland Contracting Inc., and Gilbert Power Constructors Co. The project owner, Sandy Creek Energy Associates, L.P. will benefit from Hitachi’s reliable turbine design and extensive experience. The turbines are a double shaft, impulse type design, and each turbine is capable of generating approximately 18MW of total shaft power. Sandy Creek Energy Associates, L.P., is a joint venture between subsidiaries of Dynegy and LS Power Group.

In announcing the agreement, Henry Bartoli, CEO and president of Hitachi Power Systems America stated, “Hitachi’s boiler feed pump turbine business has a long history and a proven track record in the industry. Based on the strength of Hitachi’s experience, technology, and Project Management at HPSA, we are confident that our turbine drives will continue to play a significant role in the US power business.”
