Soldier Killed in Gas Pipeline Blast in Grozny
GROZNY. April 16 (Interfax) – A soldier was killed and another wounded when an explosion ripped through a gas pipeline in Zavodskoi district of Grozny on Wednesday morning.
The explosion was reportedly caused by a mine, the Interior Ministry’s Department for Chechnya informed Interfax.
“The incident was reported to the emergency service at 7 a.m. The damaged pipeline is located near Checkpoint 43 in Zavodskoi district of Grozny. Investigators and a team of firefighters have been rushed to the scene. Gas was shut off to facilitate efforts to put out the fire,” it said.
A serviceman of the 47th special interior battalion was killed in the blast, and another sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
