Alcatel to Deliver Wireless Broadband Network to Bergamo Province in Italy

ABM ICT, a communication technology company owned by the public administration of the Italian Province of Bergamo, has awarded Alcatel-Lucent a contract to deliver an integrated wireless broadband access network serving 220,000 households, 45,000 enterprises and 100 public offices in the province's 100 towns and villages.

Alcatel-Lucent is the prime network integrator for the project within a sub-contracting consortium that includes Valtellina. The company will design, integrate and deliver a turnkey solution with existing third party products.

Alcatel-Lucent will also provide the engineering; integration as well as project manages the installation. Post deployment, Alcatel-Lucent will be in charge of the operation, monitoring and maintenance of the network. A network operation center will be provided, to manage all WiFi and hyperlan platforms and systems.

Laura Capodicasa, general manager of ABM ICT, said: "We are confident that with their field proven systems integration expertise, Alcatel-Lucent will deliver a highly reliable, scalable and secure wireless broadband network enabling us to provide Bergamo's inhabitants and visitors with high-quality services, while reducing risk and cost."
