EI Solutions Provides an Essential Component for The Palazzo Las Vegas to Achieve LEED Certification

Posted on: Monday, 21 April 2008, 09:01 CDT

EI Solutions, the systems integration arm of Energy Innovations, Inc., congratulates The Palazzo, Las Vegas, a Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) property, on achieving the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) coveted LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) "Silver" certification. EI Solutions is the provider of the 100kw solar electricity system for the property. The Palazzo's inclusion of clean, renewable energy generated by the solar energy system, coupled with other green building design practices, helped the resort achieve the LEED status. LEED certification is achieved when builders employ the USGBC's principles for energy efficiency, indoor air quality and resource efficiency into their building designs. The Palazzo is the largest LEED-certified building in the world and over four times bigger than the second-largest.

The Palazzo's solar electricity system will utilize 684 Suntech panels mounted on elevated support structures located on the top level of an adjacent parking garage. In addition to producing energy, the panels will also have the added benefit of providing shade for cars parked underneath. The completed system is expected to avoid the release of up to 212,710 lbs of CO2 emissions and the equivalent of 250,507 car-miles annually.

"We're thrilled to help The Palazzo harness the sun -- an abundant Las Vegas resource -- to generate clean, renewable energy," said Andrew Beebe, president of EI Solutions. "It's exciting to see a new construction project of this size and caliber embracing solar and green building solutions, realizing the tremendous impact and affect these principles can have. The Palazzo's leadership in this area is clearly having an impact in Las Vegas and beyond as more and more green building projects are lining up to go solar. We applaud The Palazzo's success and congratulate them on earning LEED certification."
