Visitors Steeled for Pulse
SOUTHERN STEEL assistant coach Donna Wilkins has taken a reserved approach to Jill McIntosh’s claims that the Central Pulse can beat the Steel in Monday’s ANZ Championship clash in Wellington.
McIntosh, the Pulse’s director of coaching, said there was no reason the Pulse could not beat the Steel. And while that may have riled some southern fans, for Wilkins it’s all part of the territory.
“In this professional era anything’s possible, but we have got to look at the fact that the Pulse and us have come off a loss and both teams are obviously wanting to get a ‘w’ (win),” she said.
The Steel opened with a 53-42 loss to the New South Wales Swifts in Sydney on Monday, while the Pulse lost 50-33 to the highly-rated Melbourne Vixens.
Monday night’s match will show if the Steel players have done their homework.
The southerners have video analysis technology allowing for footage of the Pulse’s opening match to be transferred on to the players’ iPods.
