United Airlines Increases Ticket Fares By 3% to 5%

Posted on: Monday, 28 April 2008, 09:00 CDT

In an attempt to offset the rising fuel prices, United Airlines has increased most of its domestic ticket fares by 3% to 5%, reported The Associated Press.

The fare increase is the third the company has announced in the past two weeks, and is likely to encourage other airlines to follow suit.

It is reported that the airline's move immediately follows the suggestion made by Delta Air Lines CEO, Richard Anderson, to increase ticket charges by 15% to 20% to combat the rising fuel prices.

According to Robin Urbanski, spokesperson for United Airlines, the price rise will apply everywhere in the US except to and from Hawaii. The 3% fare hike will reportedly affect routes where the airline competes against low-cost carriers, while the 5% increase will be implemented on routes where the airline does not compete with other budget carriers.
