Russia Able to Meet Rising Greek Demand for Gas – Gazprom Chief
Text of report by corporate-owned Russian news agency Interfax
Moscow, 29 April: Chairman of Gazprom’s management Aleksey Miller has said Russia is able to completely satisfy the growing demand for gas in Greece.
Answering a question from a journalist today in Moscow, Miller said that the [Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil] pipeline would extend from Greece along the seabed to southern Italy.
Miller added that gas consumption was forecast to at least double in Greece within the next ten years.
Implementing a project to build a pipeline through Greece would allow it to become a significant transit country of gas to Europe, he said.
Miller also noted that the amount of gas to pass through Greece to southern Italy would be finally determined once marketing and technical-economic calculations had been carried out.
