Angry Blues Fans to Hold Gold Protest

BIRMINGHAM’S board face a St Andrews mutiny next week after their season lurched to the brink of disaster.

As chairman David Gold admitted his three-month dalliance with would-be owner Carson Yeung had been a stunning blunder, Blues fans were ready to show their anger and demand changes.

The miserable display and 2-0 defeat at Fulham means even beating Blackburn on Sunday will not be enough to keep Alex McLeish’s side in the top flight if either the Cottagers or Reading win their final matches.

And while Gold pledged to keep faith with the Scot – who appears to have the backing of the supporters – the mood on the terraces is turning nasty.

But Gold denied that letting former boss Steve Bruce decamp to Wigan – who were three points and four places below them but who are now safe – was pivotal.

“The mistake was allowing the takeover to take three months to collapse, not letting Steve leave,” said Gold.

“We couldn’t hold onto him but even if we’d kept Steve Bruce there’s every chance we would’ve been relegated. At least we’re in a situation now where we have a chance.”
