Bishkek, 7 May: Another limit has been imposed on the supply of electricity to the population in Kyrgyzstan, says a press release circulated today by the Severelektro [North Electricity] company, which is engaged in power supply to the northern districts of Kyrgyzstan.
From now on, the supply of electricity to the houses and flats of residents living in population centres in Chuy and Talas regions as well as in the Kyrgyz capital will be suspended not only from midnight to 0600 hours in the morning but also from 1300 to 1800 hours local time.
"The limit on the supply of power in the daytime is because the [previously] established limit has been exceeded," Severelektro explained.
Power engineering specialists say that the power cuts during the aforesaid times will apply to "all users" except "consumers of Category One", which includes strategic facilities. Severelektro cannot say as yet how long the country's residents will experience discomforts related to the electricity cuts.
The energy crisis in Kyrgyzstan is due to a low level of water in the Toktogul reservoir this year. The Toktogul hydroelectric power station produces about 60 per cent of all electricity in the country.
