MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - The Russian-Czech intergovernmental commission on economic and trade cooperation will meet in October to discuss over sixty joint investment projects, said Vaclav Petricek, board chairman of the Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry for CIS countries, in a meeting at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
"The intergovernmental commission will discuss some twenty large and some forty medium-size IT projects," he said.
According to Petricek, the EU has provided to the Czech Republic an equivalent of 750 billion Czech koruna to improve the competitiveness of the Czech industry. "The money needs to be used to develop innovation projects before 2013, and, therefore, the Czech Republic should pursue joint innovation projects, including in Russia. I think the Czech Republic and Russia need a joint technological center," he said.
Among the projects Petricek mentioned the intention to build in the Urals an oil refinery in which $2.5 billion may be invested. "If this project meets the interests of the Czech Eximbank, we will agree in Moscow on that today," he said.
Petricek said Russian-Czech trade turnover reached some $8.5 billion in 2007. "Developing cooperation, we can take it to a level exceeding $9 billion in 2008," he said.
Some 154 Czech companies are active today in fifty Russian regions, said Petricek.
