Sonelgaz, Algeria's state-owned power company, is likely to take a slight diversion to export electricity to Spain by means of a power grid link through its neighbor, Morocco, reported Reuters, quoting the company's CEO, Nouredine Bouterfa.
According to Mr Bouterfa, Sonelgaz will enter into a joint venture with ONE, the Moroccan power utility, for the plan. However, the two parties are yet to decide on the transit price. It is reported that Morocco has already started preparing for the project.
"The project is on the table. The two parties must first agree on the price for electricity transit. Morocco is currently finalizing a line of 400 kilowatts, which will link up with Sonelgaz network in the west of Algeria and carry electricity to Spain," Algeria's official news agency, the Algerie Presse Service, quoted Mr Bouterfa as saying.
