TI Acquires Commergy

Texas Instruments has acquired Ireland-based power supply design company Commergy Technologies for an undisclosed sum.

Commergy makes reference designs for applications in the notebook, PC, and server markets. The acquisition will strengthen TI's power management and higher-performance analog business.

The US Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 requires external power supplies to follow the federal standard. Analog IC vendors like TI comply with these standards, but their ICs have to be designed for power efficiency and power factor compliance. Commergy is expected to fill this gap.

Art George, senior vice president at TI's high-performance analog division, said: "Commergy's products and expertise give us a tremendous advantage when solving our customers' complex energy requirements and critical power design challenges. New acquisitions will enhance our product portfolio to allow our customers to quickly adapt to the ever-changing computing and communications markets."
