Toyota May Set Up New Low-Cost Car Plant

Posted on: Thursday, 15 May 2008, 09:00 CDT

Toyota Motor, which recently announced a plan to open a small car plant in India, is likely to set up another plant in an emerging country to produce small, low-cost cars, Reuters has reported, citing the Japanese daily, Tokya Shimbun.

While Hideaki Homma, a spokesperson for Toyota maintained that the company is yet to decide on the location and the timing of the move, the Tokyo Shimbun reported that Brazil could be the possible location.

The planned facility in Brazil, which would be the company's second in the country, is likely to produce between 150,000 and 200,000 units for emerging markets from 2011.
