Airline Union Considering Short Contract

Posted on: Friday, 16 May 2008, 15:00 CDT

American Airlines is considering an 18-month contract for its mechanical staff, sources close to the Fort Worth, Texas, air carrier said.

Transport Workers Union leaders are reviewing the offer, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Friday.

Last year, the union rejected a company proposal to extend their contract. This year, the carrier is negotiating with three groups, mechanics, pilots and flight attendants.

The National Mediation Board has stepped in to help with the negotiations with airline pilots' union, which has been contentious, the Star-Telegram reported.
