The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that the number of fatal general aviation accidents declined in by 5% from the past year. The goal was to have no more than 331 accidents from September 2006 to September 2007, and the FAA reported an actual number of 314. "This record is due to a dedicated commitment to safety by everyone in general aviation," says FAA Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety Nicolas Sabatini. He also credits sophisticated technology-GPS, glass cockpits-as well as training for the safety improvements. The FAA reports a 5% decrease in fatal general aviation accidents for the past year.

The agency also credits its program, the FAA Safety Team, which is devoted to decreasing aircraft accidents by promoting a cultural change in the aviation community toward a higher level of safety. The program focuses on teamwork, development and distribution of educational materials, instruction in the use of safety management systems and risk management tools, and data mining and analysis.
