Sempra Energy's Energia Costa Azul liquefied natural gas receipt terminal in Baja California, Mexico, has successfully completed all performance testing and is reportedly ready for commercial operations.
Sempra LNG, Sempra Energy's subsidiary, is the owner and operator of the facility. Located 14 miles north of Ensenada, Mexico, Energia Costa Azul is being claimed as the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) receipt facility on the west coast of North America.
The company noted that, over April 2008, a variety of start-up and commissioning activities have been under way at Energia Costa Azul, including receiving the facility's first two LNG cargoes.
Donald Felsinger, chairman and CEO of Sempra Energy, said: "The start of operations at Energia Costa Azul represents the culmination of seven years of development activity involving the acquisition of permits and commercial contracts, construction, start-up and testing."
