Hawaiian Airlines to Increase Airfares and Fuel Surcharges
Hawaiian Airlines has announced that it will increase its one-way inter-island airfares by $10, rising its fare from $54 to $64, effective, May 27, 2008, to help combat rising operating costs caused by record-breaking fuel prices.
The carrier is increasing its fuel surcharges for trans-pacific service between Hawaii and mainland US by $35 each way, from $65 to $100. The company has also increased fuel surcharges to Sydney, Australia, by $40 each way, from $120 to $160, and to Pago Pago in American Samoa by $45 each way, from $65 to $110.
The fuel surcharges from Honolulu to Manila, in the Philippines, will increase by $35, from $115 to $150. There is no change in the existing $100 surcharge on the route.
Keoni Wagner, vice president of public affairs at Hawaiian Airlines, said: “Fuel prices are now 100% higher than a year ago, so unfortunately just like every other business that consumes oil, we must raise our fares to help offset some of this increase.”
