MOBIQA, the Edinburgh-based virtual ticketing specialist, said a deal with US-based airline Northwest would allow travellers to use their mobile phones and other handheld devices for boarding purposes.

Passengers choosing to use the service no longer have to print off a boarding pass. They can receive it on the move and proceed directly to airport security checkpoints where their phone is scanned to allow entry into the departure area. Yesterday, The Scotsman revealed details of a similar agreement between Glasgow- based Real Time and UK airline bmi.
