Spanish electricity utility Endesa has installed a 100kWh solar plant, covering 1,700 square meters with 670 photovoltaic panels, for home-improvement retailer Leroy Merlin at its superstore in Rivas Vaciamadrid, Spain.

The installation, which is part of the retailer’s Leroy Merlin Verde sustainability plan, is expected to help generate enough electricity for up to 50 average homes and will avoid the emission of 62 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The Leroy Merlin store exceeds by 303% the output in kW that superstores in its category are required to generate under the Spanish Technical Building Code, which requires superstores to incorporate systems for the capture and transformation of solar energy using photovoltaic technology.

This project brings to 247 the number of solar plants installed by Endesa for its customers, of which 112 are thermal solar energy and 137 are photovoltaic solar energy plants. These installations have a total capacity of 10.3MW, leading to annual CO2 emissions savings of 6,000 tons.
