Vietnam to produce more cement
HANOI, May 28 (Xinhua) — Vietnam will produce at least 50 million tons of cement in 2010 to meet the domestic demand for the construction material which is now met partly by imports, according to local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times on Wednesday.
Cement producers in Vietnam churned out roughly 15.9 million tons of the product between January and May, the newspaper quoted statistics from the country’s Construction Ministry. Vietnam consumed nearly 16.1 million tons of cement in the five-month period.
The country is estimated to consume 40-41 million tons of cement in 2008, up around 14 percent against 2007. Ten new cement plants with combined annual capacity of nearly 12.3 million tons are scheduled to become operational this year.
