Sapphire Energy Produces Renewable 91-Octane Gasoline

Posted on: Thursday, 29 May 2008, 09:01 CDT

Sustainable biofuels producer Sapphire Energy has announced the production of a renewable 91-octane gasoline made from a process that produces crude oil directly from sunlight, CO2 and photosynthetic micro-organisms, beginning with algae.

The final products are reportedly completely compatible with the existing petroleum infrastructure, from refinement through distribution and the retail supply chain.

Jason Pyle, CEO and co-founder of Sapphire Energy, said: "Sapphire's goal is to be the world's leading producer of renewable petrochemical products. Our goal is to produce a renewable fuel without the downsides of current biofuel approaches."
