Prescient’s Scan Based Trading Offering Helps Uptown Bakers Offset Rising Food Prices
Uptown Bakers, the leading wholesale artisan bakery for the Mid-Atlantic region, recently reported that implementing Scan Sales Invoicing — a Scan Based Trading offering from Prescient Applied Intelligence (OTCBB:PPID) — has allowed the baker to open new channels of distribution, increase revenues, and offset a 600-percent increase in the cost of raw materials such as flour and yeast. Prescient is a leading provider of supply chain and advanced commerce solutions for retailers and suppliers.
In place for just two months, Scan Sales Invoicing (SSI) has assisted the Washington, D.C.-based wholesale baker in entering the retail market through a new strategic partnership with a local grocery retailer. Prior to this relationship, Uptown’s customers were mostly hotel and restaurant chains.
Prescient’s SSI offering, which enables trading partners to leverage point of sale data when there is no physical inventory count, has proven beneficial for both the supplier and retailer. Uptown Bakers has been successfully using SSI to more effectively forecast sales, manage inventory, and retrieve point of sale information from 15 of the local supermarkets throughout the Maryland & Washington, D.C. region. In return, the retailer can minimize risk by paying only for the Uptown products sold. Uptown will place product in 100 additional supermarket stores with the chain in the coming weeks.
“Prescient solutions are designed to improve performance at the store shelf, and Uptown Bakers has done just that with their grocery retailer,” said Jane Hoffer, president and CEO of Prescient. “Furthermore, Uptown has been able to secure a new business channel using Scan Based Trading as a strategic business initiative.”
The SSI solution monitors cost discrepancies, provides authorization errors, and 100-percent accurate invoicing for scans and shrink share. Uptown also uses Prescient technology to forecast store and item level sales that in return enable production planning and accurate replenishment for the next delivery cycle. The greater efficiencies on the back-end enable Uptown Bakers to focus on mission-critical issues at the store level, such as keeping consumer costs low and providing accurate shelf replenishment.
“SSI has been a great success and makes us a more attractive partner as we look at new channels for our business,” said Michael C. McCloud, owner of Uptown Bakers. “Our retailer is able to offer its customers a new product in-store while we maximize utilization of our available production and logistics assets, grow revenues, and offset rising raw material costs.”
In the coming months, Uptown Bakers will be looking to further expand their reach into additional retail partners.
