Endesa Generacion Orders 840MW Gas-Fired Power Plant From GE Energy

Posted on: Thursday, 5 June 2008, 09:01 CDT

GE Energy has announced that it will be supplying a turnkey gas-fired power plant to Endesa Generacion, to add 840MW of capacity to the Spanish electricity grid. This output is expected to be largely used by the city of Barcelona, Spain.

Located in Sant Adria del Besos, province of Barcelona, the new Besos-5 power station will be based on one GE 209FB combined-cycle system and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in the first quarter of 2010.

Featuring high-efficiency and low emissions to meet the stringent environmental conditions in the area, the new Besos-5 combined-cycle plant is expected to operate on natural gas and will replace the old Besos-1 and Besos-2 conventional liquid fuel-fired power plants currently being dismantled. This is expected to lead to a reduction of CO2, as part of Endesa's environmental plan for the region.

The GE STAG-209FB multi-shaft combined-cycle system will include two Frame 9FB gas turbines, three 330H generators, one 209D steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators and an integrated control system. The scope of GE's contract also includes engineering, balance-of-plant equipment, site civil work, equipment installation, erection, commissioning and training activities.

Ricardo Cordoba, GE Energy's president for Western Europe and North Africa, said: "With this contract, Endesa will acquire its third and fourth 9FB gas turbines from GE and its 14th and 15th F-technology machines, demonstrating the company's faith in this technology."
