Baker Hughes Announces May 2008 Rig Counts
HOUSTON, June 6 /PRNewswire/ — Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the international rig count for May 2008 was 1,075, up 1 from the 1,074 counted in April 2008, and up 68 from the 1,007 counted in May 2007. The international offshore rig count for May 2008 was 305, up 8 from the 297 counted in April 2008 and up 9 from the 296 counted in May 2007.
The US rig count for May 2008 was 1863, up 34 from the 1,829 counted in April 2008 and up 115 from the 1,748 counted in May 2007. The Canadian rig count for May 2008 was 135, up 29 from the 106 counted in April 2008 and up 28 from the 107 counted in May 2007.
The worldwide rig count for April 2008 was 3,073, up 64 from the 3,009 counted in April 2008 and up 211 from the 2,862 counted in May 2007.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
North American rig count data is scheduled to be released at noon central time on the last working day of each week. The international rig count is scheduled to be released on the 5th working day of the month.
