Text of report by Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency
Islamabad, 7 June: Second SAARC [South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation]-Japan Symposium will be held here at Institute of Strategic Studies on 10-11 June on the theme of “Energy and Connectivity”, which is in accordance with the vision of SAARC leaders for creation of a South Asia energy ring.
Energy experts from all SAARC countries as well as from Japan and International Energy Agency, Paris, are participating in the event. The symposium will deliberate upon issues relating to the global energy situation and its impact on South Asian countries, prospects of regional cooperation to meet energy demand in South Asia, as well as energy policies of the SAARC countries. Pakistan is a strong advocate of energy cooperation in South Asia and hosted the meeting of SAARC Working Group on Energy early this year. The SAARC Energy Centre, which is the regional centre of excellence for the initiation, cooperation and facilitation of SAARC programmes in energy, is also located in Islamabad.
