Missing Mom Found Near Airport

Posted on: Sunday, 8 June 2008, 00:00 CDT

A California woman who allegedly abandoned her 12-year-old son during a layover at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport was found Saturday at a rental car facility.

Jolanda Newburg faces criminal charges, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. She was taken to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.

Newburg, of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and her 12-year-old son arrived at the airport Friday from Arkansas and were ticketed on a flight to California. The boy reported his mother missing after he returned from a trip to the bathroom and could not find her.

A spokesman for the airport said Newburg was on a phone at the rental car agency when she was spotted at 7 a.m. She had last been seen about 20 hours earlier and was believed to have gone to the rental agency and then left by cab.

The boy spent the night in the custody of social workers.
