PIDA Announces Opening of Display Taiwan 2008 & Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2008 - A New Photonics Island Energized With Green & Efficient Power

This year's Photonics Festival in Taiwan and Display Taiwan 2008, held simultaneously from June 11 through June 13 at Taipei World Trade Center will showcase again Taiwan's dominant position in many sectors of photonic technology and manufacturing. In concert with the growing environmental awareness in recent years, Display Taiwan 2008 & Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2008 feature photonics products which provide efficient and green energy. For example, LED has begun a new era of solid state lighting as it meets energy-saving requirement while increasing its own efficiency. The latest development of solar-energy has enabled PV to make tremendous contributions in the permeation of clean energy and to lessen our reliance on petrol-chemicals and to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide, thereby creating a new era of green energy. The environmental friendly and efficient features of LED and solar energy will bring about the sustainable social, economic and environmental development in Taiwan.

-- Exhibition Overview

This year, "Photonics Festival in Taiwan" and "Display Taiwan" have a total of 525 manufacturers from both home and abroad, with the number of booths reaching 1,360. The production value of these exhibitors will total US $60 billion dollars, making our exhibitions internationally splendid events and drawing the attention of the world to Taiwan's photonics industry.

Along with the opening ceremony, the 11th Outstanding Photonics Product Award, the 8th Golden Panel Award, Display Taiwan Business & Technology Forum, the 4th International Conference in LED Lighting Taiwan 2008, 2008 Taiwan Solid State Lighting (tSSL), the 2nd International Conference in Solar Taiwan 2008, the 2nd International Conference in Optics Taiwan 2008 and Exhibitors' Seminar on nearly 100 issues will be held simultaneously during the three-day event. Participants will be able to catch up on the latest technological developments, marker trends and innovative applications.

This performing stage of Taiwan's photonics industry will lure nearly 30,000 professionals from both home and abroad, making it one of the most important photonics exhibitions in the world.

-- Display Taiwan 2008 features

Display Taiwan 2008 has attracted manufacturers such as AUO, Chimei, CPT, Wintek, RitDisplay, and also participation of the players from abroad, such as AKT, Hitachi, Canon, Nissan Chemical, Corning, and 3M. Furthermore, we have other foreign exhibitors come from nearly 10 countries, including Japan, Korea, China, the United States, UK, Germany, Singapore and Austria. Korean exhibitors gather at Korean Pavilion to showcase the development of Korean FPD industry. Also new to this exposition is the German Pavilion, which successfully lures flat-panel displayer manufacturers from Germany.

-- LED Lighting Taiwan 2008 features

Major exhibitors of LED Lighting Taiwan 2008 include LiteOn, EverLight, Kingbright, Dow Corning, ASM and Seoul Semiconductors. The launch of "LED Lighting Taiwan" signifies the new era of solid state lighting commenced by the energy-efficient and long-lived LEDs. LED Lighting Taiwan 2008 will proceed with the several hot topics last year, such as LED backlight sources, LED street lamps, LED general lighting, landscape lighting and various LED applications. Meanwhile, the exhibition will correspond to the requirements of environmental protection and energy protection and unravel the indefinite possibilities of LEDs.

-- Solar Taiwan features

Solar Taiwan 2008 has won the support of Motech, E-ton, Big Sun Energy, and Sinonar and so on. We can see from this year's Solar Taiwan exhibition that silicon wafer based solar cells will remain the backbone of manufacturing. However, Taiwan's manufacturers have aggressively moving towards silicon, low silicon and silicon free solar cells development. We expect the scale of the PV industry to reach a trillion NT dollars in a few years after hitting the 100 billion mark this year.

The Outstanding Photonics Product Awards presented during the exhibitions every year are the milestones of each development stage of Taiwan photonics industry. The Outstanding Photonics Product Awards will be given in the opening ceremony to the 11 products selected by experts and researchers. These products include flexible electronic paper, OLED panel with touch panel capability, high contrast thin LCD panel, display for medical diagnosis application, high end projector lens, and NB LCD Panel with white LED backlight and digitizer.
