AAAE To Hold One-Day Summit On The Energy Crisis Impact On Air Service, Airports

The American Association of Airport Executives, responding to the rapidly shifting air service landscape as airlines grapple with rising fuel costs, will convene a one-day summit of aviation industry leaders to explore approaches to cope with the changes.
"The Energy Crisis and its Impact on Air Service: An Aviation Industry Summit," sponsored by AAAE and other top aviation organizations, will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Embassy Suites Convention Center, 900 10th St, Washington, D.C.
In recent weeks, as the price of oil has surpassed $130 per barrel, several major U.S. airlines have announced plans to reduce service, cut existing capacity and defer aircraft orders. In response to these difficult but necessary changes: airports are faced with making decisions about their strategic responses to the rapidly evolving situation. AAAE will assemble senior airline and airport representatives, leaders from Congress, federal agencies including DOT and FAA, energy sector officials, as well as financial experts to analyze the situation and discuss possible strategies and outcomes.
"Airlines and airports are strategically linked. As fuel prices rise and airlines change flight schedules, and general aviation operators alter their plans, airports are dealing with a shifting business landscape," said AAAE President Chip Barclay. "The goal of this summit is to bring aviation industry stakeholders and government policymakers together in an effort to frame the problem and work together to face these challenges."
Registration and agenda information will be released shortly and will be available on www.aaae.org. For more information on the summit, contact Sean Broderick at sean.broderick@aaae.org, (703) 824-0500, Ext. 126 (office), or (571) 283 7715 (mobile).
