Vestas to Supply 92 V82 Wind Turbines to New Energy Options
Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received an order from New Energy Options for a total of 92 units of its V82-1.65MW wind turbine for the Alegria project in Brazil. The order comprises supply of the turbines, a VestasOnline Business supervisory control and data acquisition system, as well as a five-year service agreement.
The order has been placed by New Energy Options (NEO), a company in which the majority of the shares is owned by Multiner, which is seeking to become one of the most important and diversified private-sector power generators in Brazil.
The wind power plant will be located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte in the northeastern part of Brazil, which reportedly has one of the best wind resources in the country with average annual wind speeds exceeding 8.5 meters per second.
The wind power plant is estimated to produce 492GWh per year, which will cover the yearly electricity consumption of approx 194,000 Brazilian households. Furthermore, it will reduce approximately 115,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean, said: “We are very pleased to receive this order for Brazil which will be the second project that Vestas will supply to the Brazilian market. Brazil has one of the world’s best wind energy potentials, reaching 143,000MW. With a wind energy target of 2,200MW installed by 2010 and 5,000MW by 2015, we have very positive expectations for the market.”
