MURRAY HILL, N.J., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is one of 10 companies being honored by the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) the VA's Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE) doing the most for suppliers of "military" descent.
Alcatel-Lucent will be recognized during the second annual Veteran-Owned Business Accountability Summit (VOBA Summit) to be held at the Renaissance Washington, DC hotel on Thursday, June 12. The VOBA Summit is a public/private initiative of two of the chief advocate organizations for veterans in business.
"CVE has long been the U.S. federal government's chief advocate for veteran business owners and NaVOBA has been instrumental in helping propel the veteran business movement into corporate America," said Scott Denniston, director of the CVE. "It's encouraging to see companies such as Alcatel-Lucent voluntarily adding veterans to supplier diversity policies and helping accelerate the veteran business movement nationally."
"The companies on our list have realized that buying from veteran-owned businesses gives them a competitive advantage; that it just makes good business sense. Through their military experience, veterans are taught teamwork and commitment and to deliver on time," said Chris Hale, president of NaVOBA. "Those are valuable qualities when a company is looking for a supplier."
Alcatel-Lucent joins Applera, Booz Allen Hamilton, CH2M Hill, Comcast, DynCorp International, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, SAIC, UPS and Xerox in receiving the 2008 recognition. Criteria for making the list included veteran supplier diversity program specifics, assets allocated to veteran outreach and overall results in usage of veteran suppliers.
"We are honored to be recognized by NaVOBA and CVE for our efforts to support veteran suppliers," said Nick DeTura, senior vice president of supply, logistics and procurement for Alcatel-Lucent's North America business. "Our diverse suppliers bring a new creativity, lower operating costs, favorable solutions and they are often quicker to respond to change than larger suppliers."
